The BJP-JJP government of Haryana first banned paddy cultivation and now it has taken a new decision to ruin the farmers

Chandigarh, June 6 - The BJP-JJP government of Haryana first banned paddy cultivation and now it has taken a new decision to ruin the farmers under the new Rice Shoot Policy. Apart from this, the farmers are still not getting the payment of their wheat and mustard crops, and irregularities in the weighing of the gram crop show that the government is leaving no stone unturned to ruin the farmers of the state.

This was stated by President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja in a statement issued here today.

Kumari Selja said that the Rice Shoot Policy implemented by the government cannot be tolerated at all. After this decision, farmers will find it very difficult to cultivate paddy and they will also get less water. In this decision, the New Rice Shoot (Barsati Mogha) in the Bhakra command system has been abolished. It will continue at places only where water of Yamuna or Ghaggar river will be available. Rice shoot will not be given in less than 20 acres of land. Of this 20 acres, paddy cannot be cultivated in more than 15 acres. In the Western Yamuna canal system (Yamunanagar-Karnal-Panipat-Jind-Rohtak), the amount of water allocated every year for rice shoots will be reduced from 25 per cent to three per cent by 2024. Every year the number of old rice shoots will be cut by 50 per cent and after 2022, no old rice shoots will be given. New rice shoots will also be limited to only three per cent.

In the Bhakra system (Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad), water for rice shoots will be reduced from 10 per cent to three per cent by 2024. After 2020 and 2021, all the old rice shoots will be finished. New rice shoots will also be limited to only three per cent. With this, no rice shoot will be given on ‘Rajbahas’ below ten cusecs. She said that rice shoot fees has also been increased by 100 per cent. Now Rs 300 per acre will have to be paid, she added.

Kumari Selja said that this anti-farmer policy of the government cannot be tolerated at all. Recently, this government had decided to ban paddy cultivation in many parts of the state. After heavy opposition from the Congress party, the government withdrew the half-baked decision just to show off. Besides this new policy of the government was a new chapter to ruin the farmers. It was conspiracy of the government to ruin the farmers that’s why the Dadupur Nalvi Canal was closed by the BJP government. She said that the farmer of the state was already in a tight situation at this time. On the other hand, the BJP-JJP government of Haryana was devising a new weapon to ruin the farmers. This government has been taking anti-farmer decisions time and again, she added.

She said that the BJP-JJP government of Haryana, which claimed to make payment of crop to the farmers within 72 hours, the farmers had not yet received payment for their wheat and mustard crops.

While speaking on the irregularities in weighing of gram crop, Kumari Selja said it was very surprising that big loot was being done with the farmers by the government agencies. These agencies were cheating farmers by tampering the crop weighing machines. This game of cheating the farmers has been caught in broad daylight in Hisar. Crop weight was being shown less in weighing machines by the government agency Hafed. About 5 kg 400 grams was being cheated from the farmers in a packing of 50 kg. Due to this, farmers were suffering heavy losses. Corruption of up to Rs 250 per 50 kg was being done with farmers. Till date, corruption of crores of rupees has been done looting the farmers of the state, she added.

Kumari Selja said that the Congress party has been continuously opposing these anti-farmer policies being adopted by the BJP-JJP government of Haryana. The Congress party had also consistently lodged its protest against the decision of the government to ban paddy cultivation. Now, the Congress party will continue to strongly oppose these anti-farmer policies of the government, added Kumari Selja.
